The Book
“This is not your usual ‘how to be a better photographer’ book. It takes you into deeper water. It requires investigation and commitment to areas new to you. Among other things, you will think about perception in new ways. If you read this book with care, and without skepticism, it will radically expand your thinking, seeing, and photography.”
—Jay Maisel, photographer
and author of Light on America

Rafael: this is quite intriguing and surprising image. At first I thought it depicts light shining through curtains; after taking the time to genuinely absorb the presentation I realized the reality of the wood surface . . . reminiscent of a trompe-l'oeil. For me there's yet a third interpretation, which has the (somewhat mysterious) light source as a molecule, and the band of light as the corresponding molecular spectrum. Very nicely executed!
